As the nation celebrates its 80th Independence Day, the students from Bhagawan’s educational institutions offered a thought-provoking drama at Sai Kulwant Hall, urging everyone to look beyond the familiar celebration of political freedom and discover the deeper meaning of true independence.

Titled ‘Heaven of Freedom’, the presentation drew inspiration from the immortal words of Rabindranath Tagore and the lives of India’s great freedom fighters. Through a harmonious blend of creative miming, live dialogues, music and poetry, the students offered a beautiful reminder that the heaven of freedom is not merely a destination for a nation, but a state of consciousness for every human being.

Tagore’s immortal prayer for a nation “where the mind is without fear” became the guiding inspiration for this exploration — a freedom not merely of borders, but of the mind; not merely from external rulers, but from the tyranny of the self. The indomitable spirit of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was brought alive as an embodiment of courage, sacrifice and uncompromising commitment to the Motherland. The story of Bal Gangadhar Tilak brought forth the power of conviction and the awakening of national consciousness. One of the most moving episodes portrayed the extraordinary friendship between Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaqulla Khan.

The drama then turned towards the teachings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, showing how the freedom fighters’ quest for external liberation finds its deepest fulfilment in the spiritual quest for liberation within. The ultimate meaning of Swatantrata, the students conveyed, is the liberation of the Self — a freedom that enables one to cast out fear, hold one’s head high, live in unity and speak the universal language of the heart. The presentation culminated with a stirring call to transform one’s life into Bhagawan’s message — to make selfless service, love, unity and self-control the foundations of true freedom.
